Synthesizing Trumpet Performances

چکیده
This paper presents our latest results in synthesizing high quality trumpet performances. Our approach identifies the continuous control over the sound as a fundamental element in the synthesis process. We developed our synthesis model as a cooperative system of two sub-models, continuous control parameters providing the interface between them. The two sub-parts are the instrument model, which takes sources of continuous control signals as input and produces an audio output, and the performance model, which takes some symbolic representation of music as an input, and produces control signals.

A Study of Trumpet Envelopes
Abstract: Most synthesis techniques provide for some amount of parametric control. Generating suitable controls is a difficult problem, especially for instruments that admit continuous control by the performer. The traditional approach to control generation in computer music has been note-based, but note-by-note synthesis tends to overlook the interaction between notes in a phrase. This study c...
متن کاملCombining Instrument and Performance Models for High-Quality Music Synthesis
Convincing synthesis of wind instruments requires more than the reproduction of individual tones. Since the player exerts continuous control over amplitude, frequency, and other parameters, it is not adequate to store simple templates for individual tones and string them together to make phrases. Transitions are important, and the details of a tone are affected by context. To address these prob...
متن کاملA commentary on blowing the trumpet with an emphasis on the verse 68 of Zumar
Resurrection is one of the fundamental beliefs in all revealed religions. The holy Quran has insisted on it to such an extent which there can be found about 1400 verses on it. The Divinely promosed resurrection is introduced with some tokens called in the Quran the conditions of the Hour of which is blowing the trumpet. Blowing the trumpet has been introduced in the Quran as a token for the end...
متن کاملInstrument specific brain activation in sensorimotor and auditory representation in musicians
Musicians show a remarkable ability to interconnect motor patterns and sensory processing in the somatosensory and auditory domains. Many of these processes are specific for the instrument used. We were interested in the cerebral and cerebellar representations of these instrument-specific changes and therefore applied functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in two groups of instrumentalist...
متن کاملModel of the Trumpet Fuctionning: Real Time Simulation and Experiments with an Artificial Mouth
For several years, we have been developing and studying computer-simulated models of brass instruments, including the player's lips. We demonstrate here the most recent developments of our physical model, including physical functioning and real-time control with MIDI events. These improvements result in great improvements of sound quality and musical expressivity. To better understand the physi...
